For the past few years, all of us, European countries, have been gathering our strengths to create a new economic unity that is the European Union. The day has come now to believe in artistic unity.
To achieve that goal, the Botanique, Maraworld, Territoires de Musique and ROSA decided to work along with the public and the medias via each one of their music festivals: respectively Les Nuits Botaniques (Belgium), the international festival of Benicàssim (Spain), Les Eurockéennes de Belfort (France) and SPOT (Denmark). There was born Pop Classik.
The project Un-Pop Classik mainly aims at inciting artists to travel within the European Union and therefore minimizing the cultural disparities musically wise.
Each festival is set to pick up a band from its own country, a band that is nationally famous but internationally unknown. Each band will then have to perform live in each one of the festivals, which means sixteen one-hour concerts in total. A symphonic orchestra will accompany the pop/rock bands in order to initiate the younger audiences to classical music, mixing the contemporary tone of the band’s songs with an older yet precious valuable sound.
The concerts could be followed on the web, live, on TV and on the radio. We therefore hope to give the public a better comprehension of the cultural varieties within Europe.
More than just a series of concerts, the project Pop Classik is a cultural exchange organized by festivals that never fail to their reputation. An occasion for each one of us to overcome the barrier of styles to unite and gather, listening to great music, in order to take a step toward openness and artistic expression.
